What is Pay It Fluently Forward?

I wanted to start a campaign to give back to listeners of the podcast. This podcast would not be possible without your listening support, and I so appreciate that.

FluentlyForward was started as something I did on the side for years along with different 9-5 jobs, and I want to give back (with promotions, recognitions, donations and gifts) to listeners that are also working on passion projects. If you have a non-profit you created, a podcast you’re working on, an Etsy store, or anything that you consider a “passion project” that could use support - submit it here! Each week I’ll shout out different listener projects in our FluentlyForward newsletter.

Get involved with our listening community! Check out some of the past Pay It Fluently Forward highlights:

  • 1/20/23: Congratulations to 4 of you from the last newsletter who won the raffle for Kelly Morgan’s book!

This week I want to shout out Paulina Buitrago who owns Daze of Vintage. An incredibly cool online vintage shop (I had so much fun browsing on here) sorted into fun creative categories: by the coast, in the city, and mountain mood.

You know I love personality quiz adjacent things, so I deem myself a “by the coast” girlie by browsing the items on here. Give her shop a peek, comment which of the 3 categories you are, and one of you will win a $100 gift card to her shop I’m giving away next week! Have fun shopping :)

  • 1/6/23: Want to maintain a healthy lifestyle? Want a free book? It’s one in the same! With New Years Resolutions on us, I wanted to shout out an incredible listener: Kelly Morgan. She’s a health coach for busy, over-achieving women, passionate about helping women make small changes to their health that fit into their current lifestyle. Her website (linked above) has subscriptions to recipes, meditation, and more, and if you drop a comment in the Substack, you’ll be entered into a raffle where I’m giving away free copies of her book, You, but Better: Stop Making Your Health So Hard!

Check out her website and reach out to her to talk about health, goal setting and more.

  • 12/9/22 - This week I want to shout out Danielle - back in February she started a TikTok and Instagram account called Wig Hair Don’t Care to raise awareness about female hair loss, alopecia, and to help de-stigmatize the idea of wearing wigs. Watching her content was so fun, and also taught me a lot that I didn’t know (1 in 4 women will experience hair loss in their lifetime).

I wanted to find a cause to donate to on behalf of this, and decided to buy two donations of tickets to a gala for the Alopecian Beauty Co gala that’s happening in Atlanta, GA next September. So stay tuned around August of next year - I’ll be raffling those tickets to a FF listener in the Atlanta area so they can attend the event with a friend and enjoy a charitable gala evening for a good cause!

  • 11/11/22 - This week I bought a beanie from a listener’s store and it’s my new favorite item of all time. Introducing: Naked Sheep Knits. (Awesome name) Erinn runs this knitwear store and there are a host of items she makes - her Amazon store is here. I bought the customized beanie and is hands down the cutest thing I’ve ever owned, the colors are perfect, and it’s so soft. I keep wearing it around the house despite the fact that it’s only November. Hats off (haha) to Erin, and check her out for knitted goods!

  • 11/4/22 - I’m so excited this week to share a giveaway for….WAVVES! Amelia is a Fluzie who has a haircare brand WAVVES that is dedicated to those with wavy/curly hair. As a fellow (secret) wavy/curly girl myself, I love brands like this that help people to embrace their hair texture.

  • So, I will be gifting two of the shampoo and conditioner sets to FF listeners! If you have wavy or curly hair and would be interested in WAVVES, just leave a comment in the Substack comment section below (this will be a slightly preference based giveaway due to the nature of the product) and I’ll reach out to you by the end of next week if you’ve won! And if you have wavy or curly hair, check out WAVVES - they have many more products on their website, including hair oil and curl gel!

  • 10/21/22 This week I wanted to shout some blogs, newsletters, zines and more that are run by FF listeners! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I’ve had jobs where I was bored out of my gourd (seasonal pun) and would have to to stay in an office for hours waiting on emails from a higher up, with nothing to do in the meantime, and due to this I a) got into blind item websites and b) developed a love for blogs and zines and online writing. Bring back the era of AIM and blogs! It was such a fun time on the internet then.

So, if you’re looking to scroll and read and be delighted, check these out:

    • The Queer Time zine. Zines are awesome, and this one has work put into it! Sofi runs this zine that focuses on showcasing and uplifting queer community and exploring different facets of queer existence. The artwork and design of these pages are incredible, the content formats are super varied - I read through these with a cup of morning coffee and it was both educational and also so entertaining and visually stunning, can’t recommend enough!

    • For blog posts on creativity, mental health, and other thoughtful ponderings, check out Lamp In Hand. I loved these blog posts - ranging from ideas of how to treat yourself kindly on hard mental health days, and I (of course) really liked this blog post: Let Go of Jealousy: Use Pop Culture, Art & Friendship. It made me want to try mind mapping!

    • Ironically Untitled. Ever since I started Substack I have been loving Substack (little newsletter treats in the inbox) and Emily’s is fantastic. Some newsletters are descriptive imagery pieces, some are tidbits of book recommendations (always looking for those), short stories, and more! She’s also a fellow Taylor Swift lover - I love anything that sneaks in Taylor Swift references.

  • 10/14/22 - Let’s talk about podcasts! Obviously I’m deep in the world of this, but I wanted to recommend a few podcasts that FF listeners run, as well as a resource for you if you are looking to start a podcast of your own.

    • Emotional Millennial! A great podcast - run by a doctor that focuses on mental health - great for if you want to be entertained but also learn helpful skills. Some recent episode titles: Bye Depression!, RT if you have imposter syndrome, and The Dissociation Situation.

    • Mindful In Minutes Meditation. Been interested in meditation but wary of doing anything for an hour because we have such short attention spans? These episodes vary in length from 5 minutes to 30 minutes and are great for helping you dip your toe into the pool of meditation. Also, ad revenue is donated to women’s organizations! Feel good x2 about listening :)

    • Speculative Sandbox. Big fan of sci-fi, fantasy, horror and more? This podcast unpacks tropes in each episode with a guest writer/author. Some cool tropes talked about in previous episodes: dystopian societies, immortality, doomed mentors, superheroes, and dark triad personalities.

And now, if you have a podcast of your own and you’re looking for help managing it, Sarah Tulloch is a FF listener and she has a content marketing business, CCST. Reach out to her if you’re looking for help with podcast launches or management - she can help you schedule episodes, edit audio, create marketing materials for you, and more!

  • 9/9/22 - This week I want to feature the lovely Aki & Co! This is a listener run clothing/apparel business that does embroidery as as you can see from the photos below…I have already purchased and loved her items! Check out her shop, and some of the incredible pieces she sells (I personally have my eye on the adorable embroidered dat hats)
