Have you heard of Ascension Flu? You've probably had it before.

About 6 months ago, I was feeling sick.

I didn’t have a temperature, and it wasn’t bad enough to warrant a doctor’s visit, but something felt off.

My nose was runny and stuffy, I had a sore throat, was tired and achey, just generally irritable and the strangest thing of all was that I kept waking up in the middle of the night at the same time.

Finally I decided to see a doctor, and by that I mean I typed my symptoms into Google like every other millennial…and I saw it.

Ascension Flu.

There were pages and pages talking about ascension flu online, and the symptoms were identical to what I was experiencing.

Have you ever experienced these symptoms?

I read through the curious symptoms of something called Ascension Flu and realized that I had almost all of these symptoms. And then, I thought to myself…what is this, really?

These seemed like second-tier symptoms - nothing directly related to an infection or sickness, but something vague enough and bothersome that it would affect a lot of people.

And then I saw the other symptoms of ascension flu, ones that weren’t physical and health-related, but more of a mindset:

  • A sudden desire for a simple life

  • Being bored or otherwise unhappy with your current career

  • Starting to dislike social media and daily news

  • Wanting to be more natural - eat natural food, take up yoga or meditation

  • A sudden disinterest in material and superficial things

  • Feeling like you’re on an emotional roller coaster and having rapidly changing moods

  • Inexplicable depression

I was intrigued, but still skeptical. Sure, I had all of those feelings at that time, but couldn’t they also be spurred on by anyone having a tough week at work?

If you read my blog, you’ll know that I’m very interested in all things mystical and spiritual.

So I looked into Ascension Flu further and found that it was a symptom of awakening. Apparently this spiritual flu is something you get when your body and soul are upgrading to a higher conscious.

Some people even went as far to write that your DNA is being upgraded, and humans on a mass level are all having their DNA upgraded and then I just went down a rabbit hole of that…but let’s stick to this idea of awakening.

We change a lot in life, and sometimes I wonder when changing stops - or if it ever does. Since I’ve been home with my parents during quarantine, I keep bugging them with questions like these:

When did you know what you wanted out of life? When did you become the person you are today? At what age did you change the most?

When I look at myself in high school, college, and even just a year ago…I’m different people. Parts of me are the same, but I’m clearly a different person through times in my life. Changing for - what I think - is the better.

If you’ve ever looked at old things you used to post on Facebook in high school, I’m sure you’re familiar with this feeling.

It’s like…who was I and how did that sentence come out of my mouth back then? There’s a bit of shame, a bit of humor…but also just this crazy idea of how you could have ever been a different you.

We change, we mature…but do we awaken? Most people call the process of changing simply “growing up” and I think to call it an “awakening” would have to mean that you changed for the better.

People who believe in Ascension Flu say that it’s brought on by positive changes - it’s truly an awakening and it happens to people who are on the right spiritual path. And sometimes it doesn’t have to be a new positive change, but rather letting go of old negative habits.

  • Gossiping

  • Casting judgement on yourself or others

  • Engaging in stressful activities

  • Speaking negatively to ourself or others

So how do you cure Ascension flu?

Answer: do all that hokey stuff. And I say that with all the love in my heart, I love the hokey stuff.

Meditate, and practice yoga. Eat clean and vegan for a week. Listen to “sound baths” on YouTube and type in “healing frequencies” to find some soothing sounds.

Take a quiz to find out which of your chakras are out of balance, and then look up ways to fix your “unbalance” based on which chakra is out of whack.

Ground yourself and walk outside with bare feet and feel the earth under you. Rest and take naps and drink hot lemon water and teas.

Here’s the way I see it - whether or not you believe in this stuff, these are good things to do.

If you have Ascension flu, this will help heal it. And if you just have a run of the mill minor sickness - these things will make you feel better and take your mind off of Googling vague symptoms and finding unhelpful answers.

So let me know in the comments below if you’ve ever heard of Ascension flu before. Is this something that sounds plausible to you, or do you write it off like astrology? I’m always curious to hear what people think - and even more curious to know if I was upgraded six months ago when I was feeling sick.

Until the next one,
